History and Naming:
James Blackburn 1875- 1943
Blackburn Park was named in honour of ‘Jim' James Blackburn in recognition of his practical services both towards the development of this sportsground and for his support of Ouyen's sporting clubs. Jim, an engineer with the State Rivers & Water Supply, came to Ouyen in 1926. A man of vision he was able to utilise his position and the resources at his disposal for the benefit of the community and in particular the football, cricket, bowling and horse racing clubs. ‘Old Blacky", as he became affectionately known, had a brusque manner which aided his ability to achieve results and leave a lasting legacy
